In his “COGs” article this month Randall Fairey points to the poor show of contributions from Kootenay compared to other dioceses. Do not take it for granted that others are donating—they are not. Less that 400 Anglicans from the Kootenays actually make a donation to the Anglican Journal Appeal. There are almost 3000 copies distributed to Anglicans throughout the Kootenays each month.
This summer I had the privilege to meet editors from diocesan newspapers across Canada at the annual Anglican Editors Association (AEA) conference in Fredericton. As reported in the June issue of the Anglican Journal, Leanne Larmondin recently stepped down as editor. I was fortunate to meet her at the conference.
Some of her accomplishments include the Anglican Journal’s 17 awards received this year at two recent national and international church press conventions. The Journal has an excellent reputation and maintains the highest standards of journalism.
The HighWay, which is a section of the Journal, has some notable columnists of its own. And now, with the addition of its own Web site, has broadened its readership base through the Internet (www.anglicanhighway.com). In addition to the latest issue of The HighWay, the Web site contains an archive of back issues, and a collection of 70 past movie reviews by Doug Hodgkinson. Doug is exceedingly prolific and all his reviews are now available to everyone on-line.
The HighWay’s regular columnists have consistently provided interesting and informative articles, such as the Bishop’s “In My View”; Peter Davison’s “You Wanted to Know”; Norene Morrow’s music column; Neil Elliot’s “In My Good Books”; Randall Fairey’s “COGs Wheels,” and in this latest issue, a new column by Catherine Dafoe Hall on “Congregational Growth.”
In this issue of The HighWay, you will find information about the 15th annual fundraising appeal of the Anglican Journal —which is also an appeal for The HighWay. Proceeds of the appeal from our diocese are split evenly between The HighWay and the Anglican Journal, our publishing partner. Your generosity ensures the viability of these publications and also means that we can continue to send the Anglican Journal and The HighWay to you each month to keep you connected with the wider church: in your diocese, in Canada and abroad. Please send your contribution in the envelope provided or donate on-line www.anglicanjournal.com (click the Donate Now button). Thank you.
