SSJD Associates Quiet Day

by Bev Barnes

On June 20 in Ashcroft, BC a quiet day and meeting was held at St. Alban's church for the Associates of the Sisters of St. John the Divine (SSJD). It was led by Martina Baier. The topic was "Reconciliation — The Many Languages of Prayer." Martina opened the morning session with a talk on the Aboriginal Worship Vision and the Healing Wheel, complete with handouts. We discussed our need to Listen to the First Nations' people.

We then read an Introduction to Lectio Divina, had some reflection time before stopping for a delicious lunch supplied by Martina. After lunch we had time to reflect on the Treasures that God has given us, with some quotes from Brother Lawrence and using Isaiah 40: 25-31 or Philippians 4:4-9. A half hour was allotted for sharing our thoughts on the meditation, before concluding with the Communion from the Reserve Sacrament, and departing for home.

It was a beautiful day for driving and the scenery was spectacular for those of us seeing it for the first time. For those of us who were able to make the trip, we found it a refreshing and spiritually enlightening day.

The Next meeting and Quiet day will be held in Armstrong on October 17. We hope to see more Associates there, along with any one else who would like to attend.
