Kaie and Norm

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT — Kaie was instantly attracted to Norm her great-grandfather.
I was a greeter one Sunday when I observed undying love in the rear pew ahead of me where Norm and Edna Denney, aged 88 and 87, always sat. A young couple sat on Edna's right and a small girl sat between Edna and Norm. When they stood during the service, a little black hand patted Norm's back and his right arm pulled her closer to him.
It was sheer love. When they sat in the pew, the girl played with her black doll and sometimes tickled Norm's mustache.
Kim and Neil Younger of Calgary, aged 33 and 35, adopted
Kaie from St. Vincent's, Trinidad/Tobago. They came to Salmon Arm to visit Kim's grandparents, Norm and Edna, and to introduce them to Kaie who is 2 years and 8 months old. She was one year old on their previous visit. They arrived on a Saturday and Kaie was instantly attracted to her great-grandfather, as was seen in church the next day. Her parents say she likes older men and Edna says Norm likes younger girls.
Having had no success in obtaining a child through Canadian adoption sources, Kim and Neil applied to adopt from Trinidad/Tobago. The two professionals were approved and on Feb. 23, 2006 a lawyer in St.
Vincent informed them that a baby girl born Feb. 6 was available. They excitedly accepted, but had to wait six months in case the mother changed her mind. They began making $500/month payments to the foster mother for Kaie's care.
After six months Kaie's adoption was granted and all the legal proceedings began. Kim and Neil were asked to choose a name for the baby, apply for a visa and passport, and apply for a Canadian passport, birth certificate and other documents. They paid $3,000 for an inspection of their Calgary home and a study to be sure they were capable of being parents. Legal fees in the two countries were $5,000 and travel costs to pick up their daughter was $7,000.
There had been a continuous exchange of pictures between the foster family and adopting parents, and when her new parents arrived, year-old Kaie went directly to Kim. They bonded immediately.
