Parish of St. Andrew, Kelowna
The challenge was to fill a truck with food. During Lent the parish of St. Andrew's in Kelowna marked off a section of the narthex with traffic cones. The object was to collect enough food to fill a pick-up truck owned by parishioners Bev and Wilf Akerlund. The food was for the Kelowna Drop-in Centre, which provides meals and a variety of services to the homeless and unemployed in Kelowna.
Parishioners brought large bags of rice and pasta, cans of tomatoes, beans, coffee and coffeemate in order to restock the Centre's kitchen after its recent renovation.
The parish has an ongoing relationship with the Drop-in Centre. For seven years members of the parish have prepared and served one luncheach month at the Centre as a way to provide relief for the kitchen staff and extra support to this important outreach in the city.
On the Sunday after Easter members of the parish loaded boxes and bags and filled the big red truck for its journey to the Drop-in Centre. The truck was full, and the challenge was accomplished.

TAKING THE COLLECTION — Jamie and Isaac Turgeon-O'Brien

Parish of St. Mary United/Anglican, Sorrento
An appreciative audience of about 100 people enjoyed an afternoon of Bluegrass Gospel music on February 16 at St. Mary's Angilcan/United Church in Sorrento. Local musician Chris Stevens, wife Suzanne and six-year old daughter Saro kept everyone's toes tapping. Chris has his own recording studio and is well known in the localcoffee house circuit and for his own involvement with the Bluegrass Workshops held each summer at Sorrento Centre. Proceeds raised at this event went to "Bluegrass for Seniors", a cause that the Steven's family supports by taking their travelling road show to various seniors' facilities in the Shuswap Area.
