GINDGERBREAD CHURCH — replica of St. Micahel & All Angels; a prize at the Christmas Coffee Party.

St. Michael and All Angels, Balfour has just completed three years of renovation. They received three grants in 2006; one from Rufus Gibbs, one from the Anglican Foundation and another from the Columbia Basin Trust.

The larger project was to replace the shingles on the roof, which was completed in the summer of 2007. Several smaller projects were also completed, and this fall the final touches were put in place by painting the exterior, shoring up the foundation and parging with stucco. The wardens, Bob Moore and Marven Pedersen, made sure thet everyone had a say in selecting the choice of colours. The final outcome is a "designer look" for a church that is one of the oldest in the region. The original church building had its first service on St. Stephen's Day, December 26,1892. In October 1895 it was dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels and consecrated by Bishop Dart, Bishop of New Westminster.

The new and improved gingerbread church, complete with church sign and construction date, was mixed, decorated and baked by Cinda Reid and Ellen Gladish, as a prize for the St. Michael's Christmas Coffee Party and Bazaar. The general consensus was that the gingerbread church was built with love and decorated for taste.
