David Irving elected bishop for Saskatoon

by Jonn Lavinnder

bishop

Archdeacon David Irving has been the Executive Archdeacon for the Diocese of Kootenay since 2007. He was elected the new bishop of the Diocese of Saskatoon in November and will be replacing Bishop Rodney Andrews, who is retiring on February 28, 2010. Bishop-elect Irving was ordained a deacon in Edmonton in 1986 after completing his seminary studies at Oxford, England. He then became the incumbent for St. Thomas parish in Wainwright, Alberta. Since then he served as incumbent at St. Barnabas in the Diocese of New Westminster, and then in the Diocese of Kootenay at the Parish of Woodsdale and St. Saviour's, Penticton.

When Bishop-elect Irving left St. Saviour's, Penticton, he went to Kelowna as half-time Executive Archdeacon and half-time Planned Giving Officer. He has also been a consultant for the Anglican Church of Canada on gift planning and stewardship. This area of expertise will certainly hold him in good stead in the Diocese of Saskatoon, as it did in the Diocese of Kootenay.

The parishes of Kootenay will miss his down to earth pragmatic style.

Ordination of the Rev. Robin Celiz

The Rev. Robin Celiz was ordained as a priest in the Church of God on St. Andrew's Day, November 30, 2009 at 3:00 p.m., Christ Church, Creston.
